Inventions

Great field ecology calls for creativity, cheap materials that can withstand the ocean, and ingenuity. Here are just a few of the inventions that have come out of the RC Lab.

A diver aiming the BIOPOLE to collect a sample.

BIOPOLE

Biopsy Pole for non-lethal genetic sampling of fish

Techs rinse recently-recruited fish from a SMURF.

THE SMURF

Standard Monitoring Unit for the Recruitment of Fishes

A diver uses a BINCKE net to collect a SMURF.

THE BINCKE

THE URSKI (named after Jared Figurski, former RC Lab grad student)

Underwater Relative Swell Kinetics Instrument
