Lance is a 1st year Master's student in the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department, co-advised by Dr. Benjamin Burford and Dr. Mark Carr. His research focuses on the physiological sensitivities of California salmonids to changing ocean conditions. Utilizing laboratory respirometry experiments of critical transitional salmonid life stages, he will clarify the impact of temperature and dissolved oxygen on their metabolic capabilities. Using the physiological traits of anadromous fishes, Lance will identify the impact of changing ocean conditions on habitat distribution.
After completing his undergraduate degrees from UC Santa Barbara, Lance has worked on the conservation and support of California salmon and steelhead populations with a variety of organizations. A California native, Lance is an avid fisherman and often goes fly fishing after completing field work. This passion has motivated him to continue to his support for these imperiled populations.
